Wal-Mart Still OK !

I have listened to this report. It’s a short one. “Wal-Mart still OK in economic slowdown”, you can listen to it at http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/02/17/walmart/ .

The reporter was talking about “Wal-Mart “which is huge store where you can find many
different things such as food, clothes and furniture. It’s located on many different states. The
reporter states that even though the economic is suffering “Wal-Mart” is still doing well and earning a lot of money. He said that one of the most important reasons is advertising because they spend about 300 million on advertising which is a small number comparing with what they are earning. Moreover, they sell tons of food and their prices are cheap. “Wal-Mart has been one bright spot”.

  1. You chose a really interesting audio clip (I liked Davidowitz's voice - he sounds pretty excited!) and your summary is pretty accurate. Here's another listening activity for you to try with this audio clip: listen again and make a list of all the different terms the speakers use to describe the concepts of decreasing and increasing. There are a lot of interesting terms in this audio clip! See if you can make a list and post it in the comments section.

  2. I agreed the point so much. even in the finacial downturn, people have to survival. Wal-Mart covers the basic day to day needs; they have every thing cheaper than other retailer, they even might get advantage from this disaster (maybe), because some might once have been high-end consumer who fall behind, and have to choose the cheapest one, and flow to Wal-Mart.
    Good instruction.
