Wal-Mart Still OK !

I have listened to this report. It’s a short one. “Wal-Mart still OK in economic slowdown”, you can listen to it at http://marketplace.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/02/17/walmart/ .

The reporter was talking about “Wal-Mart “which is huge store where you can find many
different things such as food, clothes and furniture. It’s located on many different states. The
reporter states that even though the economic is suffering “Wal-Mart” is still doing well and earning a lot of money. He said that one of the most important reasons is advertising because they spend about 300 million on advertising which is a small number comparing with what they are earning. Moreover, they sell tons of food and their prices are cheap. “Wal-Mart has been one bright spot”.

what is a green job

I just listened to a radio program names 'what kind of green jobs will stimulus spawn', the URL as below: http://www.npr.org/templates/player/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=100497752&m=100497716

New president promised bring new job opportunity to this country, revitalize the society. Some new idea? maybe this green job have be defined in a new way, or it is a new persepective.

The clip mentioned new energy technology like wind turbulence project which will creat jobs dispersing in whole energy produce, transmission and operation life cycle.

this definitely will bring some green consumer component into society. but I like the idea that weatherizing house which will save energy by wasting and consuming, and there is a huge market there waiting for money to put in to start.

I am very glad that information technology also counter in this evolution to improve efficience, even it would cause eliminating some traditional job. but we can really put money on the needs, and create better productivity.

family's financial issues and children

hi my blog fans! welcome to better life again. this week, the podcast is going to be about financial problems over the topic "telling children about financial problems" from this link http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100774287. the main idea of this broadcast is to do your best to deal financial issues with my children. don't panic children about outing of budget and don't try pull them involved in financial problems because they don't anything about that; it is adult world. Try to avoid those panic from children by explaining carefully to them, for example, " we're budgeting" kids; we have to save money for your collage. don't just say; " you can't have that" because i am fired or i don't have work now, so we can't buy it. moreover, even if we lost work and had to move to other settle because we can't afford to pay it; we still need to make it clear for our children. for instance, Hi kids, we "have financial difficulty, we've to move, we love you"; we don't want to do this because we know you love this house so much, but we have to go for a while to make sure we got money then we will come back again. we have to say something ensuring them instead of panic them like " they gonna take out all staff". anyway, the best way to avoid those panic are "being honest and positive to our children about financial problems"

Newspaper problem

Here is a topic i found interesting to listen to - http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=100256908. the news i listened to was about the issue of decreasing profits over many newspapers companies throughout the U.S. The reporter asked people how they got news and what they looked for when reading newspapers; he also had discussion over the newspaper problems. the companies he mentioned in this podcast are Courant, the Tribune, and the New York Time; but he focused only Courant. Many people believed that Courant will be close due to its loosing "circulation and advertising revenues"; and the way people get news in these day. he said, today, the stuff of this company was about half of the stuff it had "a decade ago"; however, as many big companies, Court is not going to be closed, but it might not report some unimportant news to save its budget. for example, the New York Time will stop report about "the local basketball teams or the local color stories". And Courant might use this solution too.

Dilemma in current budget

Government's job quality and policy seem a little bit far from individual life, and as my past experience, it seems irrelevant to my personal life, which I mean that their jobs impact my life but vice verse does not exist. Here Individual has more personal power I have ever see, so why we do not pay attention to the detail.

I just listened to this audio which is interesting to me, the URL is here:http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/02/02/revenue_raiser/

In general, it talked about budget, deficit and how to fill the hole.

The Movie Maven's take on Oscar nominations

I have listened to this article during my oral skills class on Tuesday 3.Feb.2009.
http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2009/01/22/midday2/

This article is talking about Oscar nominations for this year 2009. The host of the program was interviewing a guest who is called Maven Stephanie. They were discussing couple of movie which were nominated to be one of the Oscar winners for 2009. She said her opinions about those movies and whether she agrees or not that they deserve to be nominated.
According to Maven, there were not too many good movies for 2009 and most of the movies were not good.

One of the movies that she did not like at all is The Dark Knight which was one of the most popular movies on last year, however, she thinks that it was boring and too long and she hoped if it was shorter and more direct to the point. She said that she loved watching Slumdog Millionaire because it was interesting for her and very professional .

In my opinion, I think that The Dark Knight was one of the most interesting movie on 2009 because of its great story and great actors as well. Even though it was kind of long I don't think that can makes it boring.
